The Role

ecosecurities is seeking an experienced Project Structuring Specialist to join the North Latin American (N. LatAm) team. The successful candidate will work with our LatAm and international teams as responsible for structuring and developing international carbon offset projects with a particular focus on Latin American countries. The specialist will be responsible for developing a portfolio of carbon programs, focused on identifying and structuring new projects, conducting financial feasibility assessments and valuations, structuring and executing financing transactions, and supporting the definition of business development strategies and action plans.

This position will play a critical role in the development, expansion, and validation of ecosecurities’ Nature-Based Solutions program in Latin America. The candidate will require a breadth of multidisciplinary skill sets across team leadership, business management, business development, finance, science, markets and technology. It will focus on building relations with local stakeholders to identify opportunities to originate NBS initiatives that result in emissions reduction projects.

The specialist will be working in close collaboration with ecosecurities' teams operating across Latin America, as well as ecosecurities’ global team in Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions. This is a full-time position and candidates should be based preferably in Colombia, Mexico, Panama, or Peru.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct financial feasibility assessment and evaluation of international investment opportunities in global voluntary carbon markets;

  • Structure and develop all stages of project (modeling, contract negotiation, tax review, disbursements). Develop financial modeling that include analysis of capital structures, risks, sensitivity and profitability analysis, determine financing alternatives. Structure innovative blended finance mechanisms when appropriate;

  • Lead and/or support the negotiation of strategic partnerships with key stakeholders. Develop and maintain ecosecurities’ relationships with partners to enhance collaboration and partnership initiatives, secure funding, and scale initiatives;

  • Develop commercial proposals, due diligence processes and contracts, such as joint development agreements, emission reduction purchase agreements, etc.

  • Stay up to date with the evolution of carbon markets and climate policy;

  • Participate in major international events and conferences on carbon markets, and identify potential international partnerships;

  • Build processes, toolkits, and communication/marketing materials to support the activities described above;

  • Serve as a thought partner to the global management and commercial team to develop and implement business development plans;

  • Work in close collaboration with the ecosecurities global team to ensure alignment of strategies and priorities. Provide periodic reports and assessments on progress against project pipeline for internal and external audiences;

  • Other task as directed by the ecosecurities Head of N.LatAm Region.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in finance, economics, environmental management/engineering, business or public administration, sustainable development, or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

  • +4 years of progressively responsible experience in project finance / structuring, climate or development finance, market-based mechanisms for conservation or related area are required.

  • Full professional proficiency in English and Spanish is a must. Ability to create high quality written documents (proposals and deliverables) in English and Spanish.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

  • Proven ability to work across multiple teams in multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and stakeholders.

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, and prior experience in developing and maintaining MS-Excel-based financial models.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of forestry, mangrove and nature-based solutions, issues and policy trends across the Latin America region.

  • Knowledge of the carbon market and carbon project development is an advantage.

  • Experience in the Latin America region desirable, as well as experience in land use projects and knowledge in forestry and agricultural markets.

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal guidance.
