The Role

This position will play a critical role in supporting the development, expansion, and validation of ecosecurities’ carbon projects within internationally recognised carbon standards. The role will provide technical skills and analysis to support the development of high-impact and innovative carbon development projects.

In addition to carbon projects development experience, this role will require a good knowledge of financial analysis in compliance with the main carbon standards requirements.

The role will report to the Brazil Carbon Projects Head and will support: i) feasibility assessments to determine a carbon project technical viability; ii) technical and data analysis to quantify project emission reductions and removals; iii) additionality demonstration and financial analysis; and iv) design of long-term monitoring and impact assessment programs that support the verification process and ecosecurities commitment to delivering projects of the highest integrity. In addition, the role will assist in the development of the ecosecurities’ environmental and social impact framework for carbon projects.

The role may also be required to provide analysis, services, and products to ecosecurities carbon projects across other regions worldwide and will be integrated into the ecosecurities carbon team operating across Latin America.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support senior technical staff to quantify emission reductions and removals from carbon projects, and demonstrate additionality (including financial analysis) in accordance with internationally recognised carbon market standards and methodologies.

  • Work with other ecosecurities technical specialists and consultants to deliver (i) technical analysis of carbon projects and (ii) developing a framework for social and environmental impact quantification and monitoring in carbon projects.

  • Contribute to the development of greenhouse gas models that quantify emission reductions and removals from carbon projects.

  • Remain up to date on carbon standards and methodologies and UNFCCC developments and bringing advances into the development of ecosecurities’ project planning and design.

  • Represent ecosecurities in forums and events and professionally present the work of ecosecurities across the region.

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the local team and the global teams.

  • Other tasks as directed by the corporate and project priorities.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in biology, engineering, environmental sciences, natural resource management, economics, finance, or related fields.

  • 3-5 years' work in supporting carbon projects, ecosystems services, climate change or international development projects across Brazil and abroad.

  • Experience with defining a framework for social and environmental impact of projects, and long-term monitoring of such impacts.

  • Expertise with additionality demonstration and financial analysis under the scope of a carbon project.

  • Demonstrated expertise in GHG quantification and accounting for energy related and industry related projects, such as renewable electricity generation, fuel switch and biogas technologies.

  • Proven team player able to work effectively across cultures and within and across organizations.

  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail and experience with work-flow documentation.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to build on existing knowledge to develop new approaches.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Portuguese.

Desirable:

  • Master's degree or MBA

  • Proficient in the Spanish language.

  • Technical expertise using a range of report writing software, presentation software, spreadsheet software, R (programming language) and analysis of large datasets.

  • Experience in designing statistically valid field measuring programs and in the statistical analysis of field data.

  • Demonstrated ability to collect data, conduct analysis, interpret and communicate results for a broad audience including government and corporate partners, community leaders and project developers.

  • Experience in project management applications to control project deliverables, project tasks and due dates.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant climate and carbon science literature.

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal guidance.

  • Knowledge of forestry, mangrove and nature-based solutions carbon projects and methodologies.
